Friday, June 8, 2007

DIFFICULTY: Easy-Medium depending on experience

My first reaction when I saw this picture was...WOW! Eva's hair looks really shiny, silky and everything else a girl could dream her hair could look like.
So, I've decided to combine my skills, ask my hairdresser friend Monique and use the internet to get you to achieve straight, silky smooth hair in no time. Easy instructions below, if you still need help click here.

STEP 1: WHAT IS YOUR HAIR TYPE

Click here to find what your hair type is, and scroll down for chart

This is essential to know so you can choose the right products for your hair. Eva's silky straight look can be achieved by anyone, even those who have already naturally straight hair but lack shine, health or that silky glossy look. Obviously, this is a site for mixed women so you'll find instructions for YOUR hair types.

STEP 2: CHOOSE THE RIGHT PRODUCTS:

Any hair product enriched with silk protein, according to me and hairdresser Monique work BEST on any hairtype to add that SILKYGLOSSY SMOOTH FINISH to any tresses.
Click here for the best silk enriched products.
However, any silk-based products you find in the department stores like Sunsilk, Dove or Schwartzkopf will do just fine, however do invest in the more expensive products if you can, they truly work better than department store products and will give you that oh so coveted sliky glossy look every woman envies!

STEP 3: EASY INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR HAIR TYPE:

You can use instructions below for straight (any texture) to curly hair (up to medium texture). Kinky/coarse curly hair requires different care, view below:

1-Start by washing hair with silk based shampoo and leave silk-based conditioner for at least 2 minutes. If you don't have silk based shampoo and conditioners, don't worry you can stll achieve that silky straight shiny look.

2- After rinsing conditioner out, use either cider vinegar, lemon juice or beer in your final rinse. Some people have different result using either methods. If you are going to use beer make sure it's a good quality beer like Guiness. I personally use beer as it makes my hair extremely shiny on first use. Vinegar doesn't work as much for me but it may for you.

3- From here:

Towel dry hair to remove excess moisture and then blast with a hair dryer until about 50% dry. Apply about a teaspoon of SunSilk Iron Effect Straightening Cream or any other straightening lotion, cream, spray to the hair, spreading evenly through the lengths. Make sure what you're using has also heat protection to reduce hair damage.

Divide your hair into eight sections and blow dry. Use a round brush to pull each section taut, and ensure that the nozzle of the blow dryer is facing down the hair.
To achieve a super sleek look you it is recommended to use a flat iron after blow drying

Rub a small amount of SunSilk Style Definition & Shine Wax between your fingertips or use any silk based finishing serum. Finish the style by applying wax to the ends of the hair, piecing and defining layers.

For coarse/ kinky hair:

Straighten curly coarse/kinky hair

Relaxers are the most popular way to straighten medium-coarse curly to kinky hair. Relaxed curly/kinky hair is easier to maintain. Once it is relaxed, you can blow dry like in the above section but you'll need different hair products with more oil. Click here for a list of the best products for kinky hair.
